December 25, 2009 - Lunch
Far north of Chicago. An actual tree. Lots of kids in little shoes. Red sweaters. Mannheim Steamroller. Republicans. This should feel like home turf in a way--I grew up in the Presbyterian church, mainstream protestantism, youth group, the whole deal. We were poor for a lot of it, but that shouldn't matter, should it? Not to Jesus. But I've been away for too long. I feel extremely weird; not weirdly, but weird, alien. Until it's time to eat sausage. Then I feel deeply normal and comforted.
I have a Coke for the hangover.
