July 5, 2009 - Dinner

Sushi @ Ginza; our default joint. The fellow from the bikeshop was there with his wife and little girl for hibachi. Flying cucumbers caught in mouths. I would hate to be the audience, but being the chef looks fun. Discussed green roofs; there is a new sort of material--a mix of glycerin and compost, stowed in burlap bags; you pop holes in them and the holes grow.

The problem with green roofs is that they are expensive, all overengineered plastic interlocking lego strategies for sksyscraper owners glad to pay $750L. This approach is far cheaper. Still, would cost $10K to make our personal roof green. Benefits are delayed rain runoff, diminished heat island effect, lower roof maintenance costs, improved peace and well being from greenery. Need to lay down PVC substrate, though.
