October 11, 2009 - Bicycle ride

Up and over the Manh. Br. I wondered: do I want to go all the way? That is, when I say to people: 100 lbs. to go, I say that to disarm them, to put them off, to change the subject and make the colossal confusion of the last many months irrelevant. But do I want to mean that? Now that I have some sense of what's involved?

We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.

Spoken like the child of privilege he was. I choose to stay in my apartment, thanks. No moonshots for me. And yet let's say it could be done like this:

If it can be the former, then maybe. If I can get to the moon by floating slowly skywards, then yes, I choose to go.
