Today Gina Trapani, Director of Engineering at Postlight, writes about one of the web-development industry’s most complicated relationships—its long-term, complex, co-dependent, and often frustrating relationship with WordPress, which, lest you forget, is the generative force behind a massive percentage of the web pages in this world.
But not every nail needs a fully-custom hammer. During our CMS conversations, inevitably I am the person in the room who brings up WordPress. Then, my teammates put on their most patient facial expressions and listen to me make the argument.
She goes on to talk about the good times (plugins! users and roles!) and the bad times (The Loop! caching hell!) of WordPress.
It’s a surprisingly tricky problem—when you use WordPress you got a lot of great stuff “for free”—but at what cost? Considering that cost is part of the job.
