August 24, 2009 - Lunch

The past is filled with poor people.

They listened to the radio as they canned.

The factory district is now all lofts. Your grandfather with his toolbox, who never rode a streetcar, is dead.

Our tiny daughter is standing on kitchen island and waving her arms.

When faced with a craving I now seek to identify the essence of the desire. The hunger for a cheesesteak was met by Vietnamese beef. The breakfast sandwich can be made with chicken sausage and egg whites. Sometimes all I want is a lot of ground pepper. What about the desire to leave New York City and start again somewhere else, a different industry, wider streets, a basement, a car? What is the essence of the desire?
