Friday Links: Engineering Edition

Here are the five most interesting links this week from our engineering department. Thanks to Jeremy Mack. Collated by Chloe Olewitz.

  1. The workman keyboard layout philosophy
How many engineers do you know that suffer from repetitive strain injuries and tendonitis after too many late night coding hours? This look at QWERTY keyboard alternatives like Dvorak and Colemak examines some more ergonomic options. (via Nic Young)
  2. Browser Freedom
Instead of choosing a default browser for everything you do online, set rules for specific web pages and launch any link from a shortcut menu. “I’ve been using Choosy for years for intelligent browser opening on macOS, but it’s nice to see Browser Freedom as a more modern-feeling alternative.” (via Jeremy Mack)
  3. Wordpress theme starter kit, from Mozaik Agency
“For doing WordPress theme development, this starter kit gives you modern build and dev tools (like auto browser refresh powered by BrowserSync — even for PHP files).” (via Gina Trapani)
  4. Critical update: DAO Vulnerability
On the Ethereum BlockChain, an autonomous holdings organization called The DAO held $160 million worth of a cryptocurrency called ether—until an external attack started distributing the funds, which prompted Ethereum developers to launch a Robin Hood counter-attack, and so on, and so forth. (via Bryan Bickford [@sudoprime])
  5. A new way of blogging about Javascript
“Klipse is an interactive-code-snippet embed for writing about JavaScript.” Most blogs about JavaScript present code snippets, but don’t include evaluations of the input or allow readers to modify the output. Existing tools to evaluate JavaScript code snippets do the job, but are cumbersome to say the least. Enter Klipse. (via Drew Bell)
