Is there any software more exciting and simultaneously demoralizing than CRM? I spent the day setting up and getting to know a new CRM tool that we'll be using at Postlight and it strikes me that it's such a terrible framework: It's weird how alienated the CRM is from the people who will fulfill its promises. There should be checkboxes like "motivating for team" or "client risks" so that you could plan and understand the actual challenges in the sales cycle aside from just pushing a contract across a line. There should be some point of view. "

"We couldn't live without CRM tools but they really do take a very organic, consultative sales process with a lot of complexity and strip it away to something that is purely transactional--or I guess a better way to put it is that they reduce some risks that a deal will not close but ignore many others, and increase long-term risks because they push leadership to focus purely on sales."

"I'm selling people's time, which is pretty valuable!, but as far as the software is considered I might as well be selling gold-plated doghouses or bags of eels."
