Alt Text: A subway stop in NYC. Two girders made up of odd shaped metal subsections extend platform to roof, wrapped in rubber numbers and zebra striped yellow and white tape. They taper to a huge screw at the bottom which is inserted into a broad flat metal foot, giving the whole thing an iron-giant-chicken-foot vibe. It does not in any way seem great or indicative of a robust and forward-looking attention to public infrastructure.
